Over the past five years, Armenian society has faced several challenges that threaten to undermine psychosocial well-being and have adverse effects on mental health in both the immediate and extended periods. Coupled with the current prevalence of mental health challenges and the number of people affected by conflict, this challenge escalates significantly.
What is an emotional support hotline, and how can it support the community?
A crisis hotline is a service people can call for immediate phone counselling by trained volunteers and mental health professionals. Such hotlines have existed in most major cities of the English-speaking world since the mid-1970s. Initially set up to help those contemplating suicide, many have extended their mandate to deal more generally with emotional crises.
The crisis line addresses mental health challenges by providing easily accessible, confidential support and emotional relief. It ensures timely intervention, reduces the escalation of crises, and offers specialized care from trained professionals and volunteers in psychosocial support.
There are many challenges on our way to establishing the service, and even more ways one can support us in this mission. One of the main obstacles is the financing and overall lack of resources. Timely meeting our financial goals will allow us to act immediately.
Partnering with GlobalGiving, we run a fundraising campaign to fund the first 6-month module.
