As mental health challenges increasingly intersect with cultural identity and social vulnerability, professionals are called to deliver care that is both inclusive and equitable.

We are deeply honored to host Professor (Dr.) Zenobia Nadirshaw, MBE, Hon FBPS—a trailblazing expert in the field—to explore the vital role and responsibilities of mental health professionals in providing culturally acceptable services for vulnerable groups.

Professor (Dr.) Zenobia Nadirshaw, MBE, Hon FBPS, BA (Hons), MA, DSc, DPhil, DLitt, CPsychol, CSci, AFBPsS, HonMBPsS, is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with 44 years of clinical and management NHS experience of Health and Social Care Services in Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Care. She has worked in a variety of Health and Social Services settings – including projects/initiatives with a commitment to continuous improvements in psychological health care for clients and positive outcomes for their carers.

She has chaired several health and social services groups/committees providing advice to Health Authority Commissioners. She has also directed and led substantial organisational change at local and national levels within the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and also in the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP) – influencing service delivery issues and impacting on the profession of Clinical Psychology and psychologist’s training and development of competencies to work effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic British context.

For her teaching, training and publications she has been awarded 3 Honorary Doctorates.

Professor (Dr.) Zenobia Nadirshaw MBE has won the following awards:

  • British Psychological Society (Award winner for Challenging Inequality of Opportunities 1996/1997)
  • British Medical Association 2001 Book of the Year Award “Clinical Psychology, ‘Race’ and Culture: A Training Manual“
  • The TIAW World of Difference Award (2012), Washington DC
  • Honorary Life Member Award of The British Psychological Society 2016
  • The Inspiring Migrant Woman of the Year Award 2016
  • “Key to the City of London“ Honour bestowed by the Guildhall, City of London 2017
  • Awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) on 12 June 2019 at Buckingham Palace
